Terms of Service

DevWorks is a free, non-commercial portfolio builder run by one individual developer ("the operator", "we") as a personal project. By creating an account or publishing a portfolio you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. The service

DevWorks lets you build and publish a developer portfolio. It is offered free of charge, for as long as the operator chooses to run it. Features may change, be removed, or stop working, and the whole service may be shut down at any time, with or without notice. Keep your own copy of anything important: you can export your data from Account settings.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for what happens under your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Account settings.

3. Your content

You keep all rights to what you upload and write. To run the service you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display and deliver your content, only as needed to host your portfolio and show it to the people you share it with. The licence ends when you delete the content, apart from short-lived backup copies.

You confirm that you have the right to publish your content and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

4. Acceptable use

You must not use DevWorks to:

  • publish anything illegal, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or violent;
  • infringe someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
  • impersonate another person or misrepresent who you are;
  • distribute malware, phishing pages or spam;
  • attack, overload, scrape at scale or try to break the security of the service;
  • point a domain you do not control at a portfolio.

We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules, where reasonably possible after telling you why. To report content, use the "Report this page" link on the portfolio itself, or contact the contact link on the operator's portfolio at /teop.

5. Custom domains and slugs

Portfolio addresses are first come, first served, and some are reserved for the app. If you connect a custom domain, you remain responsible for that domain, its DNS records and its renewal.

An account can hold up to 5 portfolio URLs at a time. If an unpublished portfolio goes untouched for 30 days, it loses its URL so someone else can claim it - the portfolio itself is kept, and you can pick a new URL any time. A published portfolio never loses its URL this way, so it is safe to put on a CV.

6. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, availability, or that data will never be lost. It is a hobby project, not a professional hosting service.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damage, or for any loss of data, profits, opportunities or reputation, arising from use of or inability to use DevWorks. Because the service is free, the operator's total liability for any claim is limited to zero.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, and nothing affects your mandatory rights as a consumer.

8. Third-party services

DevWorks depends on outside providers (listed in the Privacy Policy) and links to sites it does not control. We are not responsible for their content or availability.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms. If you do not, you can export your data and delete your account.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the law of the European Union member state in which the operator resides. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your own courts. If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
